Vis Com Final Comment:
best Picture Award!
Craft: The photo is clear especially with the water moving in the background it does not look blurry.
Composition:The way the picture was taken is really cool looking at you from behind. Then the word addition looks good because it fits the whole calmness of the picture.
Concept- I like the choice of words that were added to the picture. It is a nice finishing touch to a great picture. It works well together with the deep thought in the picture and then the deep quote!
Most Displayed Artwork Blog!
Craft- She used blogger and uploaded her photos she also had to make her pieces jpgs and make them small enough quality tthat they can be quickly loaded on the web.
Composition-She has pictures of not only herself, and her interests, but also of all the stages of her different artwork.
Concept- Her blog overall gives you a good understanding of her personality, her likes and dislikes, and finally her ability to make nice pieces of art. Not only does she show you her final piece she shows you what she started with as well.
Best Comic Display!
Craft- He used blogger and upload in order to post his comic on his blog. He created his comic on comic life and had to save it as a jpg and reduce the quality before being able to upload it.
Composition- I like the way he shows his comic in multiple blog entries, in his final blog entry, and as his link to his website.
Concept- The repetitiveness of the comic makes me believe he spent a lot of time on it and is proud of it. I like that he uses a motif throughout the blog.
Most attention getting blog!
Craft- The template is unique, she is the only one who has it. She added alot of pictures to the blog not only of herself but her interests as well.
Composition- The use of many different colors makes you think she is sparatic and fun, the repetition of basketball shows you what is important to her.
Concept- Her blog overall captures her personality and interests, it has pictures of her but she is not the center focus. The fonts and colors make it appealing and make you want to read what she has to say.
Best personality representing blog
Craft- I cheated a little bit because this was my roomate and I know her personality, but when I looked at this blog without seeing her name or picture I knew it was hers.
Composition- She chose the black background which makes her blue text really pop out at you. She then picked pictures of herself and things that represent her life and posted them as well.
Concept- It was interesting because in the pictures there is the same color blue which makes them fit perfectly, and then the aloha picture makes you think of the ocean blue and relaxing so everything fits nicely.

Final Blog
To view my website click here
Assignment: create a website about us and visual communications
We used I web to create our website. We did a page about ourselves, and then a page highlighting our mashups and finally a page with our comics on it.
I made my pictures, some text, and a headline all hyperlinks linking to my blog or bigger versions of my pictures.
I also added a link on my blog and in this post to my website so people can easily navigate back and forth.

Assignment 12
Brittany Jones
Assignment: final comic
Craft: I made another box in order to have a box of a magnified view of the phone in the water, so that people could understand that he dropped his phone in his water. I also added text boxes like captions.
Composition: People were having trouble understanding what was in the package, and what the point of the story was.
Concept: This helped alot of people understand that the ups guys laziness ended in the death of someone, without the ups guy knowing it... It is infering that people should not be lazy and careless because we are not aware of all the consequences of our actions.

Week 12 blog
Assignment: Comic Life
Craft: I put my finished pictures into comic life and adjusted the background color, and the shapes of my rectangles.
Composition: I then added speech bubbles with text, and thought bubbles with thoughts. Lastly I added expression statements such as splash and crash.
Concept: The speech bubbles help the reader to understand what is going on, but I learned from our critique that I need to also add captions to give a better understanding of my point that I am trying to get across, which is we never know how our actions effect others.

Week 10
Assignment: Comic color
Craft- By using layers and multiply we were able to use color over our pictures without covering the background details.
Composition- I used a bright blue for the suit of my main business man character, a brown for the uniform of my UPS guy, and an orange that represented the cell phone which later became the package being sent. This highlighted the 3 aspects we needed for our story/ the person bringing the package, the recipient, and the package
Concept- My concept is that the UPS guy is taking his time and goofing around not really worried about getting the packages out in a rush, while this laxidaisical quality of his results in a man crashing and not having a phone to call an ambulance and his inevitable death. The irony is that the UPS guy does not know that he indirectly could have saved a man's life, and will never know the consequences of his actions. It makes people think about how every thing they do can effect others in dramatic ways.

Week 7
Assignment: Write a story including a traveler, someone waiting, and a package.
Concept: We go about our daily lives with our lazy habits not having any idea how our decisions effect other people.
Traveler: UPS man.
Waiter: Business man
Package: Cell Phone
Story: A business man is impatiently waiting because his cell phone was broken and he was waiting for his replacement that he needed before he drove 20 hours for a business trip. Unbeknownst to him, UPS is taking there time with the package, putting it off and thinking it is not that important. Finally the day arrives for him to leave for the trip and he has no choice to do so without a cell phone. As the man is driving at night of the first day, the UPS man is ringing his doorbell with the package in hand. As this is happening the business man is startled and goes off into a ditch and down far into a forest and is trapped in his car. The UPS man hops back in his truck and tosses the "unimportant" cell phone in the back, clueless that that cell phone could have saved the man dying in his cars life had it gotten there a little sooner. He drives away whistling along to the radio as the business man says his last prayers and closes his eyes.
Week 7
Assignment: Write a story that includes someone traveling, someone waiting, and a package.
Concept: We go about our daily lives with lazy and laxidaisical
Extra Credit
Alysha, Alex, a friend who is not in an art class, and I all attended the 200 pieces of Lincoln Art exhibit. We thought it would be a cool experience to see our pieces of artwork hanging in an exhibit and also to see the ideas others have come up with to represent Lincoln.
Although I was bummed that my piece of art was not hanging up here, I did see some other peices that I enjoyed.
My favorite Lincoln Piece was a lamp that i found in the back corner of the exhibit. I was very interesting because it was not hung on the wall but instead could be displayed as a piece of art and a piece of furniture for a room. I liked their use of different pictures to not only see Lincoln in one way but instead in many ways.
My least favorite Lincoln Piece was a poster of a collage of naked men with lincoln's head simply cut out and pasted over them. I thought it was tasteless and would love to talk to the creator and ask them why they did this. The craft of this piece wasn't even good it was childlike, and childish and I really did not like the way they portrayed this American icon.

mash up 2
Assignment- mash up 2
Craft- I went through similar routines of photoshop to make my new picture using two different pictures in my mash up. I used the lasso tool for the car and the heart shape on their holding hands, used some paint to cover up a red light that would make the picture not make sense. I used the blur tool to make the car fit in better. I had a seperate layer to make the heart brighter and colored purple. I used alot of the transform and adjustment tools as well.
Composition: One thing that I used that I did not use in the last picture is a brightness and color change of a portion of the picutre in order to control where the viewers eyes went. The heart shape on their hands shows that I am trying to convey eternal love through the old couple walking. My composition needs work because the picture of the car was taken in the day time, and the background is at night, therefore the car has no lights, and looks very bright and shiny which looks off with the rest of the picture.
Concept: My original concept with this peace was that although these people are blessed to find someone they spent their whole lives with and are still in love, it upsets me that when people get this love, one of them will always die first leaving the other alone in a world that they have never been alone in. So I tried to show them getting hit by cars at the same time so that neither one of them would ever have to endure this pain, they both die together at the same time, holding hands with their other half. I need to add another car coming from the other way to make this point better seen, because right now it looks like he will only die and she will not, and the defeats my entire purpose.

Assignment: Take 25 pictures in preparation for a second mash-up
Craft: I am taking a variety of different pictures and also a variety of different places. One thing I learned from the last mash up was that I was more focused on taking good pictures of the people, and less worried about what was in the background. In this mash up I am going to be much more conscious of this.
Composition: I am not positive about my project yet, but my current idea is to do something about the rashness of suicide. I am not positive about how I will compose this, but I have a few ideas. I hope to get my point across without being too controversial or upsetting.
Concept: I know alot of people that have commited suicide, and I have seen the amount of lives they have touched, and I always wonder if they could have seen ahead to these lives, if they would still do it. I hope to get the point across that even when you think things are at their worse, there are many people that love and cherish your life, and that suicide is a permenant solution to a temporary problem. I may use some sort of irony to project my message.

Week 4
Craft: This week we had to redo our project using the critic to improve it. Instead of trying to make my first picture better, I decided to start from scratch with a new approach and a fresh idea. I used a picture of two of my guy friends fake fighting and using our photoshop tools cropped in the president of the confederacy punching abe the president of the union in the face in a dorm room. I also fixed some of the background aspects to bring these two presidents into a
"today" situation.
Composition- Besides replacing both of the charactors faces, I also changed the computer graphics and the television picture. Two of the biggest pop culture things that are going on in my time are facebook, the online networking phenomenon, and Obama's election. I changed the computer screen to be on the facebook website and then photoshopped a different picture of Lincoln into the portrait area to make it seem like he had been looking at his own facebook prior to the fight. Also seeing as they are both presidents and political figures, they would obviously be watching President Obama's inauguration speech on the television.
Concept: My concept was to bring these two men, and show what would be happening if they were to grow up in my time. In order for them to become political leaders they would have to go to college, and I figured maybe they met in a poly sci class and decided to room together. The problem is once they got to know one another, they found out they disagreed on weather or not President Obama should have been elected into office, and when Abe turned on the inauguration speech Jefferson Davis got angry and punched him in the face.

Week 3
This week we created a mash up of Abraham Lincoln and a picture from our era.
I went to starved rock on our day off with my grandpa, and thought that it would be a really cool place to link up with Abraham Lincoln since Abe was from Illinois, and Starved Rock is a national park that is very important to Illinois. I took many pictures of my grandpa around starved rock, and though that the one of him sitting on the fish that has the words Starved Rock underneath it was the perfect picture to mash up with Abe.
I used the picture of my grandpa as the background and cut out Abes face as my second layer. I had to adjust alot but eventually got his head to fit nicely inside. My most difficult task was learning how to make it look like my grandpas hat was on Abe's head. By adjusting the opacity and lining up the faces, and then deleting most of Abe's forehead I was able to acheive this goal.
I thought that my concept was a good one by putting Abe at Starved Rock in Illinois, showing a kind of somber, real, message. My problem came in when I didnt know the history that Abe was against the Indians and would actually want to kill them instead of preserve and commemorate them. This is going to be how I fix this picture, by bringing in a negative message such as Abe at Starved Rock trying to find black hawk for war.

Assignment: 25 old pictures from the Lincoln Era and 25 pictures from my era
Craft: I went to many different search engines looking for Lincoln images and saved close to 50 pictures of Lincoln and or related people and objects to Lincol's era. I then simply took my camera out whenever I left and took random pictures from different places and different angles in hopes that they would mesh well with my Lincoln pictures. I ended up having close to 200 pictures taken of my era. I sifted through all the pictures and moved over one by one some of my favorites from both eras and made cuts until I had 25 of each.
I chose these 2 photos as my favorite:
I chose this Lincoln photo because he looks young, not quite the age of most of the inhabitants of my pictures, but he looks like he was out all night partying with crazy hair!
I chose this picture of my mom and my two dogs because this is one of my favorite moments of my day when I'm at home, because you get goodbye kisses through the convenient railing of our stairs. This is also the last picture I took of my little black dog missy before she got sick and passed away.
I actually noticed before I saw the assignment that these two pictures may mold together to have Lincoln getting kissed by my puppies, and therefore feeling the joy they give you. I would have liked to experience one of his favorite daily moments, and therefore will let him experience one of mine. They both are looking the same way and may be able to be fit together.

Setup Blog
Assignment- Setup Blog
Craft-
What was my process for setting up my blog?
I had a lot of trouble being able to gain a blog because of my email address' but I finally did. Then I chose my template and picture and heading before going through and exploring. I then added different add on's such as dodgeball and quote of the day. Finally I changed my fonts and colors, and began writting this first blog!
Composition-
Why this photo?
This picture means alot to me because I'm in my basketball jersey, and basketball is a huge part of my life, and playing in college, is one of my greatest achievements.
Why this template?
I chose this template because it was the most colorful and fun, and I like colors more than bland, and like things that catch my eye like the polka dots instead of just a plain background.
Concept-
If I had a soap box, what would I shout to the world?
If I had a soap box, what would I shout to the world?
I would shout out that we only live for so long, and that each individual person should evaluate what is important in their own lives, and cut out all the meaningless dramas and stresses and enjoy life without regrets. I would also say that the easieset way to brighten their own day, is by brightening someone elses and to encourage people to help, and inspire others!
