mash up 2

Assignment- mash up 2

Craft- I went through similar routines of photoshop to make my new picture using two different pictures in my mash up. I used the lasso tool for the car and the heart shape on their holding hands, used some paint to cover up a red light that would make the picture not make sense. I used the blur tool to make the car fit in better. I had a seperate layer to make the heart brighter and colored purple. I used alot of the transform and adjustment tools as well.

Composition: One thing that I used that I did not use in the last picture is a brightness and color change of a portion of the picutre in order to control where the viewers eyes went. The heart shape on their hands shows that I am trying to convey eternal love through the old couple walking. My composition needs work because the picture of the car was taken in the day time, and the background is at night, therefore the car has no lights, and looks very bright and shiny which looks off with the rest of the picture.

Concept: My original concept with this peace was that although these people are blessed to find someone they spent their whole lives with and are still in love, it upsets me that when people get this love, one of them will always die first leaving the other alone in a world that they have never been alone in. So I tried to show them getting hit by cars at the same time so that neither one of them would ever have to endure this pain, they both die together at the same time, holding hands with their other half. I need to add another car coming from the other way to make this point better seen, because right now it looks like he will only die and she will not, and the defeats my entire purpose.

Assignment: Take 25 pictures in preparation for a second mash-up

Craft: I am taking a variety of different pictures and also a variety of different places. One thing I learned from the last mash up was that I was more focused on taking good pictures of the people, and less worried about what was in the background. In this mash up I am going to be much more conscious of this.

Composition: I am not positive about my project yet, but my current idea is to do something about the rashness of suicide. I am not positive about how I will compose this, but I have a few ideas. I hope to get my point across without being too controversial or upsetting.

Concept: I know alot of people that have commited suicide, and I have seen the amount of lives they have touched, and I always wonder if they could have seen ahead to these lives, if they would still do it. I hope to get the point across that even when you think things are at their worse, there are many people that love and cherish your life, and that suicide is a permenant solution to a temporary problem. I may use some sort of irony to project my message.

Week 4

Craft: This week we had to redo our project using the critic to improve it. Instead of trying to make my first picture better, I decided to start from scratch with a new approach and a fresh idea. I used a picture of two of my guy friends fake fighting and using our photoshop tools cropped in the president of the confederacy punching abe the president of the union in the face in a dorm room. I also fixed some of the background aspects to bring these two presidents into a

"today" situation.

Composition- Besides replacing both of the charactors faces, I also changed the computer graphics and the television picture. Two of the biggest pop culture things that are going on in my time are facebook, the online networking phenomenon, and Obama's election. I changed the computer screen to be on the facebook website and then photoshopped a different picture of Lincoln into the portrait area to make it seem like he had been looking at his own facebook prior to the fight. Also seeing as they are both presidents and political figures, they would obviously be watching President Obama's inauguration speech on the television.

Concept: My concept was to bring these two men, and show what would be happening if they were to grow up in my time. In order for them to become political leaders they would have to go to college, and I figured maybe they met in a poly sci class and decided to room together. The problem is once they got to know one another, they found out they disagreed on weather or not President Obama should have been elected into office, and when Abe turned on the inauguration speech Jefferson Davis got angry and punched him in the face.

Week 3

This week we created a mash up of Abraham Lincoln and a picture from our era.

I went to starved rock on our day off with my grandpa, and thought that it would be a really cool place to link up with Abraham Lincoln since Abe was from Illinois, and Starved Rock is a national park that is very important to Illinois.  I took  many pictures of my grandpa around starved rock, and though that the one of him sitting on the fish that has the words Starved Rock underneath it was the perfect picture to mash up with Abe.

I used the picture of my grandpa as the background and cut out Abes face as my second layer.  I had to adjust alot but eventually got his head to fit nicely inside. My most difficult task was learning how to make it look like my grandpas hat was on Abe's head.  By adjusting the opacity and lining up the faces, and then deleting most of Abe's forehead I was able to acheive this goal.

I thought that my concept was a good one by putting Abe at Starved Rock in Illinois, showing a kind of somber, real, message.  My problem came in when I didnt know the history that Abe was against the Indians and would actually want to kill them instead of preserve and commemorate them.  This is going to be how I fix this picture, by bringing in a negative message such as Abe at Starved Rock trying to find black hawk for war.
